Housekeeping!

 Greetings, guys!

We know it's been a while and we're sorry.  There are several great reasons we haven't posted.

1)  Our Facebook page is being updated constantly.  If you're not Facebook friends with us, shame on you, but we'll forgive you-- if you go like us right now at http://www.Facebook.com/StorageHeroes

2)  We are now Auction Pro Contributors for StorageTreasures, which is a pretty big deal.  StorageTreasures is the leading Auction resource and we're super thrilled that they think enough about us to let us have our own column.  You can read it here:   http://www.storagetreasures.com/profile/blog/284e7ebddeee0d64522fbd488ec6e600  There are videos as well!  After you read the article displayed (This week's) make sure to look in the upper right hand corner for the other articles.  There are even more archived here:   http://www.storagetreasures.com/forum/Storage-Heroes/50/   It's why we've been so busy!

3)  We haven't really bought any units in awhile, probably the longest time ever since we started this business.  We were kind of on the track to getting burnt out, which is bad, and were both sick (it's that time of year where yellow pollen runs rampant in New Orleans),   but mainly it was just because we realized how much STUFF we have.  We've been really focused on eBay, Craigslist, and selling the things we have, and we have been making hundreds without spending a single penny for the past couple of weeks.    Don't worry, we're going to buy some new units this week, finally!

4)  We've set up another blog, just for you to be able to see what we're selling, and only what we're selling without reading the anecdotes on the blog.  So, if you have a friend who maybe isn't interested in the dirty diapers and dentures and things we find, but maybe just wants to see what we have for sale, you can direct him here:   http://auctionheroes.blogspot.com   We'll update it weekly or bi-weekly.  And if you're wondering why the name Auction Heroes,  we found out a little while ago that a company we were dealing with over a year ago regarding a possible TV show had actually tried to register a TV series (without us) with the name Auction Heroes.  Hell no.  I doubt it's going to get off the ground but if it does the web searches will point to what WE have for sale.  There are oh so many things about this business! :)

Okay so that's enough of homeroom announcements!     We'll have a new blog for you in the next day or two, it's about a homeless lady who used a storage unit to hold items she found off the street that she would then sell.    Sad but true!

Until next time,

Storage Heroes

Letters from a Storage Locker 15: Paternity?

Okay, so this isn't so much of a letter as it is just a form.  Just one simple form.  Perhaps not even deserving of it's own blog, but we think it is.

Here's part 1 and 2 of a paternity testing form.  We omitted the middle section as it contained the father's name and residence information as well as the father's father and mother's information.  We should note that the mother was not totally sure of the father's parents names, and that she crossed out his address about 4 times to put different addresses.

And now, we present... paternity:

I also like that the answer to the question:  WHERE did he get married is a ?-- but the answer to WHEN is "In Dallas"

Finally, "He Lied about Everything!"     Poor lady.  I hope she got the help she needed, and if she was lucky, some much-needed child support!

Until next time,

Letters from a Storage Locker #14: Navy Cachets

Awhile back we had a unit where we blogged about a stamp collection we found.   Included in the stamp collection, which spanned the entire globe, there were also some really old postcards and letters from a sailor who was serving in the late 1930s and early 1940s.   We love this World War II era memorabilia, so of course we saved them (even though we sold the stamp collection) so that we could get a better look.   We will eventually sell these as well (or donate them to the D-Day Museum, perhaps), but we thought they'd make a great addition to our "Letters from Storage Lockers"  collection, which we will be putting into book form very shortly.

What's interesting to note about these letters and postcards is that they all contain what we call "cachets", which is probably why the stamp collector had them (he appears to have no relation to either the sender or the recipient).   A cachet is basically a stamped picture on the envelope in addition to the stamp or cancellation that marks a special historical event.  Since our guy was in the Navy, most of the cachets he sent marked Navy holidays, Federal Holidays, and birthdays or launch dates of ships.    If you want to read more about cachets (we are so educational here), you can follow this link:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cachet

Our first one is a postcard, postmarked March 17th, 1938 from Vallejo, California.  This one is my favorite because the date is actually Brian's birthday along with my Father's and a few of my other favorite people.    Not saying Brian's birthday is 1938, even though he might act like it!  hahahahahaha.

It reads (in the tiniest print imaginable... you should all be thrilled for me that I got new glasses today.  My first pair, ever):

Dear Folks:
Greetings on St. Patrick's Day from the Navy yard, Mare Island, California, and me.  These cards were especially designed at this yard's printing shop - a tribute to the Day - First time, I think.  Tho to make the stamp valuable had to be post-marked today.  Thought the stamp might prove interesting to the boys, and in time perhaps of value in their stamp collection.

The launching of the submarine S-6, U.S.S. Sturgeon, took place Tuesday (15th), as scheduled.  It was broadcast I understand over national hook-up (N.B.C.) - no doubt if you were tuned in you heard (Central Time 2:45 P.M.).  It was very beautiful - one of the prettiest launching I have seen out here, as she took to the water very gracefully, as if waiting the moment.  The ceremonies were very impressive as usual- there's something about the launching of a vessel that seems to get you giving you a good crop of goose pimples, & a slight inclination towards a bit of water about the eyes.

The sponsor, a Mrs. Charles S. Freeman, from San Francisco, whose husband is an Admiral in the Navy, in charge of Submarine Warfares, gave a second strike before the old bottle of champagne broke - at that the ship got a good drink, & the little wasted, her coat caught - it seemed anyway, both ladies were christened.

Love to all, etc --

Sincerely,
Lill

Here's a picture of what that one looked like:

And another:

Our next one is an envelope only, commemorating the launch of the U.S.S. Swordfish, April 1, 1939:

There's also an envelope from the launching of the U.S.S. Trigger, October 22, 1941:

One commemorating the launch of the Submarine U.S.S. Sturgeon, March 15, 1938:

And by the way, I'm not suggesting our writer was on all of these vessels-- it appears where he was stationed in Vallejo, California was actually the Mare Island Naval Yard -- must have been a cool job to watch all of those sea craft come and go!

Here's one commemorating the launch of the U.S.S. Sperry,  December 17, 1941:

and the launch of the U.S.S. Pompano, March 11, 1937:

This one is interesting because it's not like the others... it's postmarked from New Orleans, LA,  but is addressed to someone else in New Orleans, LA.  It contains two cachets,  one claiming a First Voyage of the S. S. Deltargentino,  a ship that sailed United States Mail from New Orleans to Buenos Aires, Argentina.    The other was basically the same thing, but in another color, and language-- actually from Argentina.

Here's one commemorating the Keel Laying of the U.S.S. Fulton on July 19, 1939:

and the Keel Laying of the U.S.S. Tuna,  July 19, 1939.     I have no idea what a Keel Laying is, so please don't ask.  We'll work on researching that one!

Our next one commemorates the launching of the U.S.S. Fulton on December 27, 1940.   This one was obviously very close to Christmas, so contains a picture of Uncle Sam dressed as Santa Clause with an appropriate caption!

This one also contains a letter:

Vallejo, Cal  27 Dec 1940

Dear Leone:

Went to get this nice cachet stamped envelop off to you, as today is the launching of this ship, the U.S.S. Fulton.  Will also try to get some of the defense stamps - 1 cent, 2 cent, and 3 cent to put on to increase it's value.

Will write you later, as soon as the rush of Christmas visiting is over - missed everybody tremendously at Christmas - in fact I never had a bit of the Christmas spirit - will write you fully on that subject a little later on -

Love to everybody and a very Happy New Year to all.

Sincerely,
Lill

Here's another random letter I found late in the game:

I love my job... it's so nice to be able to read things like this!  By the way, it's at this point that I'm realizing the only letters that this collector left in the envelopes were the ones that mentioned things about increasing the values of the stamps or envelopes because of the cachets.  That explains why we have some letters but not others.

These last two both have to do with Navy Day, which apparently was a time for the Navy families to come visit the guys at Mare Island Navy Yard.

This first one is a cachet advertising Navy Day, October 27, 1938:

And the second is an envelope about the Commissioning of the U.S.S. Henley, August 14, 1937:

... but inside, it has an invitation to this sailor's family, along with the program for the expected events of Navy Day.  Here's the pictures of that:

That's it for now!   We tried to get this one out as close to D-Day as we could--  pretty close to Memorial Day as well.    Thanks to all of our Armed Forces past and present, for all of the work that is done.  Words cannot express our eternal and complete gratitude!

Until next time,

Letters from a Storage Locker #13: Band-Aids -- a Journal

We don't normally post multiple letters from the same person if we can help it, and we never post people's journals-- but this one was too good to pass up and has an important message.  Our guy is living in New Orleans, bouncing back between New Orleans and Florida in the early to mid 1990s.  He's very lonely, and spends his time answering personals ads in the classifieds section of the paper, trying to find the right woman for him.  He's also a die-hard rock and roll fan, and goes to each of his favorite band's concerts religiously, keeping detailed notes of each show.   Most important, though, are the lessons he ends up learning about prostitutes, crack, and the AIDS virus.     (If you didn't already gather, this is adult content, so please be warned).

If this is your journal and you'd like us to remove it from the site, please let us know and we will be happy to do so.  As we always return personal items to facilities unless they tell us not to, presumably your other stuff is there or we may still have it and can make arrangements to return some of your items.  We appreciate your message and hope your mistakes (and successes) will help generations after you who may read this.  Names & places have been changed, of course, to protect the innocent.

If you enjoy these "Letters from a Storage Locker", make sure to check out the previous 12 entries.  Please leave us a comment or e-mail us and we will let you know when the book "Letters from a Storage Locker"  is available for purchase.  And as always, spelling and grammatical errors were left as they appeared. Our comments appear once or twice in blue.

I took out Tracey to the Theatre to see "Doc Hollywood."  The lesson that I learned that day was don't be cheap on a date, meaning buy her things by offering her something from the snack bar.  Plus act normally [like every day activity with Chris] at anywhere you might go to.  The reason that I'm writing this entry is because I lost a probably a future girlfriend because I tried calling her and she wouldn't return my phone calls.  I met her at her work place at (Restaurant) - she was a waitress there and the first time I saw her was she was my waitress and I really enjoy the way she took care of me.  She has a pretty smile and the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen.  But I have to try to forget her because she receive a scholorship to go to a college up east and she probably meet someone new.

Monday, Feb 3, 1992

I'm writing this entry in my Journal to remind me of the fact that I shouldn't believe everybody's word except when it is in writing <meaning: don't be so gullible>

Reason:  back when, when I was 18 years of age, I had my head up my ass <for the obvious reasons> and I was caught shoplifting.  I pleaded guilty to crime and according to pre-trail advisory committee, as long as I plead guilty and swear never to commit another crime my name would be cleared of all charges.  And now in 92' it looks like my name isn't cleared and even being cleared by and serving the Army.  I will have more information in the days to come.

Monday, February 24, 1992

Never pick up girls who's main desire during the date is to smoke crack.  They do not know what they do when there under the drug.  There very selfish, always thinking of herself not of you and your needs.

Friday, February 28, 1992

I am writing this for me to express my idea on AIDS.  I don't believe in AIDS on the count of bad sex.  My belief is that the thing that they call AIDS is only a blood-diesase that forms when people are not true to their fellow man.  To me AIDS comes from God - Almighty when people break one of his Ten Commandments. FOr thousands of years man have had sex or love and nothing really serious happens to them.  Another point I like to make is that like, cancer do people know where this comes from  No they don't!  When people have cancer of any area, doctors tells them and how bad it is and how long they have to live.  All Aids is that [to the people who started it] another reason for the Christian-majority of politicians and church leaders trying to stop people from having sex before marriage.  Because to their belief, sex is forbidden before marriage. That in itself is outrageous because god had created us to be sinners in the eyes of god not to be perfect in all ways.  We will always be making mistakes that's the reason for being a sinner.  It's only when you do something bad to other people that you wouldn't do to yourself.  MEANING:  DO UNTO OTHERS FOR THEM TO DO UNTO YOU.
I'm not saying that I'm right, but until I either get HIV positive or die and confront god on judgement day and then and only then will I be convinced that I'm right or not.

I am thinking about writing a book about my life. If I do I will call it "MEMOIRS OF A LONELY MAN"

(GOODWILL)

I'm figuring out the percentages % of Federal, State, and S.S. taxes plus medicare taxes.  There are as follows:

Fed                 State       S.S.         Medicare                      For me only
.12474       .02355     .06198            .0145                          .007648

Saturday evening, February 29, 1992

It was one of my bad days as you might say. I was in a accident that was my fault.  The sun got in my eyes and temporarily blinded me and I accidently hit the other car.  It was a woman driver she had no known injuries in the accident and minor damages on her car.  But my car on the other hand had slight damages but more than her car.  I don't know why but I can't seem to get control of my actions lately.  I hope to find myself again and stop being what I hate.

Wednesday, March 4, 1992

I received a letter last week from Kathleen. She answered my letter and told me that I was a perfect gentleman and I did nothing wrong on the date but, why do I feel so bad about that night, why do I feel so wrong, like I didn't do a good job at bringing her out.  And if she did say that I was a perfect gentleman, why she didn't called me after the date and even after I called her three times and no returned phone calls.  I still confused about that night but I going to stay to my ideas and try to relax during my next date and don't tell her about my past love life. Try to talk to her about life get to know her inside and out.

Went to the V.D. clinic on S. Claiborne today to get my HIV test. I plan on getting counseling on my beliefs and helping with my obsession with sex.  I beginning to think that I am paranoid because I the only one that's thinking that aids comes from god and not by sex.  But I still want more information on HIV and AIDS so I can be more convinced.

Thursday, April 16, 1992

Today I went back to V.D. clinic to get my results on my blood test and came out negaitive.  I need to go back to talk to a counselor about my beliefs on their hyphosis <scientific guess>.  God help me with my search for the answers to the truth.

Monday, August 3, 1992

Today I met Laura, who works at Walt Disney World outside of (a certain ride).  She's the same as I she like's the same music. Strange place to meet some-one that enjoys good music.   I thinking about asking her to be a pen-pal.  And by the way this starts my vacation at Disney World.  I hope to meet her tomorrow.

Saturday, October 3, 1992

Tonight I met O'lympia on the usual corner.  She was real good in bed.  The first time that I didn't come when doing 69 and she also licked my asshole that was a weird feeling.  For the first time since starting going out there, I gave a girl my number.  Maybe the reason I didn't come was that I concentrate on something else like "NOTHING."

Wednesday, November 25, 1992

I'M WRITING THIS TO REMIND ME TO NEVER RENT A CAR ON A WEEK DAY. FRIDAY AND SATURDAYS ONLY ALSO I MET DEBBIE (A.K.A. LACEY) WHO WAS PRETTY GOOD BUT, TOO NERVOUS ABOUT LOSING HER SHIT.  I PLAN TO CALL HER IN THE NEW YEAR. BUT ONLY IF SHE IS CLEAN (DRUG FREE).

UPDATE

Wednesday, December 16, 1992

I MET LACEY AT BURGER KING ON CARROLLTON AFTER I CALLED HER FOR A DATE ON THIS DATE. WE SPENT THE AFTERNOON SHOPPING FOR HER CHRISTMAS PRESENTS. THE REASON I DID THIS WAS I WANTED TO GIVE DURING THE CHRISTMAS SEASON. WHEN WE FINALLY GOT TO THE HOTEL SHE WANTED TO GET SOME LIQUOR AND STUFF. I THOUGHT THAT GIVING HER SOME CLOTHES AND HER MONEY, SHE WOULD BE SATISFIED, BUT SHE WAN'T SO THAT NIGHT WAS THE LAST NIGHT I DATED HER.

Monday, June 8, 1992

On this day I seen RIDE in concert for the first time.  It was my first "live guitar" rock concert, they were extraordinary, I felt so much emotions that night, it was beautiful. I can't wait for there next album and concert.  I feel the same way about RIDE as I feel about DEPECHE MODE, ERASURE, or MORRISSEY, plus RIDE is the first band of the 90s that I love to listen to.

Tuesday, November 10, 1992

Tonight I saw MORRISSEY in concert for the first time.  Because it's the first time he came to New Orleans since that time that Morrissey was supposed to come to N.O. last November but cancelled.  It was a excellent concert even though there was no encore. I believe the security had something to do with it.

Tuesday December 17, 1992

The morning after I dated Lacey, I had a knock on the door.  It was two women who was asking me if I was a party person that they had heard about from a friend.  So I let them in because it was cold outside and they wanted to talk. So we talk and I decide to date them but, the only problem I had was getting to a ATM machine.  It took awhile to find a machine when we did I got the money for the date and we were on our way. There names were Ginger and Dana.  Dana was the woman that I dated she was great sex but just like all the rest who used crack.  I was ready, she wasn't, I hate waiting because I get so anxious to do the love making I start to get a little angry, but, she was worth it. I thought.

December 24, 1992

I had a good expanations that I would have a good time that might want Dana only and also with Ginger.  But, like always, whatever I want, it never happens.  What happened was, I left work to meet Dana at Circle K for 10:00 but she wasn't there so I waited outside in the cold until midnight and then I decided to go to the (local bar that is actually now owned by a friend of mine... small world!)  for a coke and to wait.  It was 2:00 when I decided to go to her apartment and see if she was there.  She wasn't so I decided to go home with my presents that I had gotten for her and Ginger.  Right when I got home the phone rang and it was Ginger and they were at a friends house and they needed a ride from there to go home I thought.  So me not having a car I offered them a ride in a cab.  They said no, and decide to take their friend's truck while he was asleep.  They did and they came to pick me up from my house.  Tey had trouble finding my house, they were knocking on someone else's door instead of mine.  They called me again and ask were was I.  so I left home and walked to Causeway to meet them.  Then from there we went to purchase some crack from some hoods on the other side of Causeway.   They ran to the truck like bees to honey.  Two different hoods were trying to sell crack to Dana and Ginger . Me, myself personally, I hate to be around people like them.  The point being there was enough, plus, the fact of being in a car with no insurance on us, no driver's license, and no title registration in the name of either of the girls or myself.  So after I brought her two pieces ($40.00)  we left there to go to her friends house to return the truck.  Then again I offered to call a cab, they agreed but after waiting awhile they decided to take the truck again.  I tried to change their mind but it did no good.  So again were back in the "stolen" truck even though they ask their friend to borrow it, he said just for a little while.  But they didn't return it when he asked.  When we finally got to the apartment, Dana told me that she was having her period and that we couldn't have sex now but I could have it with Ginger instead.  Ginger was okay I was looking forward to having sex with Dana.  From that night, I felt like that I was lied to from the beginning of the schedule date , where they were almost where they were supposeod to be, because when I was waiting at Circle K for them they said they passed by in a car or truck and didn't see me and even called Circle K to see if I was there.    Question, if they started out bar to bar hopping and finally to their friends' house, how did they passed by and not see me?  And also Dana knew about her problem and didn't tell me until we got to her apartment.  She wanted crack so much, she didn't mind lieing to me.  I'm uncertain about seeing her again.  So far, she hasn't call me for anything.

Monday, May 10, 1993

I went today to get my second blood test to test for HIV.  I will know my results on May 24.  I hope I'm still right about my beliefs.

Monday, May 24, 1993

I went today to get my results on my HIV TEST, it as NEGITIVE.  I glad it was negative even though I don't care either way.

Monday, July 5, 1993

Today, I went with Peter and Melissa to the French Quarter.  While we were there, I had my palm read.  And he said that my lucky numbers was 137, and my lucky days were wednesdays and saturdays.  I was also told to be careful on September 18th because something going to happen to me on that date.  Nothing fatal just a small warning.  Also he reconfired my beliefs about being a chef.  He said that in the future I could own my own business or serve people like a chef.   And about my love line he said that I never felt love before, or just never quite found it, but there's something in the future. My life line was fine, I'm expected to live a long time.

Tuesday, July 27, 1993

Tonight I went with THERESA to the show and drinks.  We went with MATTHEW and SHIRLEY to see "Another Stakeout" and then to Obie's for drinks and play pool.  We had a great time and THERESA was beautiful that night, her eyes seemed to sparkle and shine with the moon-light.  ON that night I found out that THERESA was a good pool player.  There's an activity that we can do in the future together.  Also her hair was beautiful too.  When the night was over I droved her home to ALGIERS.  She lives in an apartment complex called (name of complex)  off of General de Gaulle.  I walk her to her apartment and she kiss me goodnight on my right side of lips but not on my lips. I hope I can see her again this weekend, or next week.  I hope this feeling doesn't leave me and I hope that she feels the same about me that I feel about her.

UPDATE - Tuesday, August 10, 1993

After some time since our date she decided that she just wanted to be friends.  But what kind of friend hardly ever does talk to you?  Sometimes it feels like she ignoring me.  I think she really likes but is afraid that another guy will hurt her again.  Even though it stills hurt to think about her now, I still what to be her friend. And maybe in time she will trust me well enough to love her like she wants to be love.

Friday October 8, 1993

On this day I seen Depeche Mode in concert.  It was a great concert except for the ending which was ut short because of Dave Gahan's getting sick and passing out back stage.  I hope he feels better soon and comes back to play in N.O. again.  The opening song was "Higher Love" plus before teh song actually started there was lighting flashes and thunder rumbling, and three see-through curtains from top of the stage to the bottom, Dave on the stage itself & Martin, Andy, and Andrew on top of this large box that had video screens in it.  With the bright white light shining behind them they look larger than life.  It was excellent.

Saturday, Jan 1, 1994

Today will mark the last day, that I will ever date a prostitute again.  Not because of the financial aspects of the ordeal but, because if I can make a "lady of the night" fall in love with me. I know there's a girl out there who can do the same.  I know as I write this it's not going to be easy to do what I have just written but, I have to see this through.  If I ever want to see my dreams come true.

Thursday, March 24, 1994

Today I went to Jefferson Parish Health Unit to get my Third HIV Test Done.  The results will be in two weeks. I  hope the results will be satisfactory.

UPDATE:  Friday April 15, 1994  (this entry was added after the fact)

I've received my results today concerning my HIV test.  There were negitive.

Thursday, March 24, 1994

Today I went to get my Third HIV test done.  I will find out my results in two weeks on April 7, 1994. I hope my belief is right, now that my life has changed.

Saturday, April 9, 1994

Today I called to get any messages that were in my voice mailbox.  There were two,  Heaven and Monique.  Heaven's 29 and has four children and lives with her mother and she's working to achieve her H.S. Diploma.  Monique's 35, she and I decided to be friends.  My experience with this personnel ad was I learning experience even though, I didn't meet anyone in person yet.  I going to try this again in the future.

Monday, April 11, 1994

Today I was supposed to had met Heaven at the Riverwalk.  But, she never show up and in by surprise I met La-Quana.  She was working outside of the Riverwalk mall.  She was selling film and disposable cameras.  She had a beauty that I haven't seen for a long time.  She was interested in why and what I was waiting for, and from that we started communicating about different subjects school, dating, life, etc.  I going to take her to lunch Wed. after school.  I hope she likes me as much as I'm beginning to like her.

UPDATE - Friday, May 21 1994 -

I decided that it would be best if she and I just be friends.

Sunday, June 5, 1994

I been waiting for this night since Sunday, October 8, 1993.  Tonight I saw Depeche Mode again in concert.  It was great.  David look better than ever before.  The stage was scale-down to display a tighter playing Depeche Mode.  Same goes for the lighting and visuals-paved down and to the point.  I went with Melissa and Peter and, I brought along a friend from work.  Her name is Cathy she's a cashier who works there part-time.  We all had a great time, and as a matter of fact, it was Melissa's first concert ever.  It was sad to see that the concert had to end and for the lights to come on.  But at least, I was able to see them again within one year's time from the last performance.

Monday and Tuesday Night, August, 1994

These two nights were the only good things to come out of my trip with Jack and Dan.  On these two nights I met this extraiondary, beautiful, and lovely looking woman (or ladely).  Her name is Clarissa.  Her name is as almost as beautiful as she is.  She ask me to have a private dance with her, in the back part of the club which was called Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea (not the real name but ALMOST as good as this one, I promise) - She was as naked as a jay bird.  But, man, was she beautiful.  How can one woman look so beautiful?  I will never know.  The lap dance she gave me was out of this world.  On Tuesday night I went back there again, alone.  And Clarissa was there by the bar alone.  When I walk through the door, she seem to light up like a Christmas tree because she was so glad to see me again.  I ask her, Monday night, after our dance, if we could talk but she was buying at the time lap dancing with other men (20 dollars a dance), so Jack, Dan, and I left the club for the night. So on Tuesday night I finally had my chance to talk to her.  And after we talk and lap danced together, again, I ask her if she would like to go out with me to Walt Disney World.   And since she never been there before, she said yes and gave her home phone number (it's actually written here, obviously we won't write it).  I hope her intentions are as real as mine.

NOT!  (written in after the fact)

Today I met Tyresa who I had just called the other day.  She had an ad in the person to personnels in the Lagniappe section of the Friday's Times Picayune.  She was searching or looking for a soul-mate who was longing for a relationship, and I was.  I met her at the Lake Forest Shopping Center.  She look different than I had hope for, but after talking for awhile I began to like her even more.  She's 6'4 and fully built (48 inch chest) and a little bit over-weight, but that's fine because her voice, personality, and charm make up for her short comings.  It's been a long time since I have been waiting for my true love to come, and now that I met Tyresa, it feels weird to have these feelings for her.  I hope I can relax around her and not feel nervous or shy about my feelings for her.  I hope I can relax around her and not feel nervous or shy about my feelings for her.  I hope this is love that I'm feeling for her and not lust.

I'm on my way to see Phil in Harker Heights, TX.  It's the first time I seen Phil since 1991 or 92.  I'm spending four days with him and returning on Monday, Jan 2, 1995.  I'm really looking forward to seeing him again, even though I wish I can see Tyresa some more.

Wednesday, November 27, 1996    (the date was whited-out and written over in 2 different spots but both times it says 1996.  I think he went back after a period of time and changed it and maybe changed it back, I'm not sure.  Not sure what happened to the missing entries, either... this is the very next page).

On Sunday, November 10, 1996, I answered an ad in the person to personals in the Times-Picayune.  Her name is Marilyn, she's 31 years old, and has one 11-year-old son.   We first met at the Oakwood Mall in Gretna, Louisiana, on Friday, November 26, 1996, for coffee and conversations.  We got along great, she had to go to a party later that night so we decide to try to see each other Sunday, Nov 24, 1996.   And we did and we had even a better time then I would've imagine.

I hope the future is bright for us as a couple and not just as friends, because I do believe this is the one that I have been dreaming for, for a long time.  God in Heaven please make this one real.  We have so much in common, we both love Walt Disney World, we are both rebels, she and I both wants to travel. I love this new feeling in my body.  It makes my life seem so more bearable.

He actually posts the physical cut out of the personal ad that Marilyn placed and it's here:

31-year-old SBF, full of lie and love, seeks a 27 to 38-year old SW/Hispanic M of character and morals, who wants a deeply spiritual, meaningful relationship.

UPDATE - May 17, 1996

It didn't work out as well as I would've wanted.  She used me and really set me back financially but, the sun will shine and I will bounce back again.

Tonight, I've seen the first and lance concert from Ned's Atomic Dustbin.  They had broken up just after their tour had ended.  It's a shame they couldn't make it either by sales or relations between themselves.  It was my first concert that I exp. slam-dancing and it was a night-mare, I didn't enjoy it at all.  At least the whole concert wasn't that bad as the slam-dancing, because, I had a great time seeing them in concert.

Wednesday, March 10, 1999   (again no explanation for dates or missing time... this was the very next page)

Before setting out on this night to see Stabbing Westward and Placebo, I had a phone call from a woman that I had previous call and answered her ad in the personals.  While talking to her, I had mentioned the fact that I was going to a concert later that night.  So, I coordinally ask her out to join me at the concert and she accepts.

After our phone call, we decided to meet at Tipitina's on South Peters in the French Quarter at 9:30 P.M.  Her name is Stella, she is originally from Utah or Las Vegas, nevada.  So, after driving around the warehouse district to try to find The Howlin Wolf' we get there on time to see Placebo on stage to there set while Placebo was playing, Stella saw someone familiar next to her, it was Trent Reznor of Nine-Inch-Nails and like almost any woman obsessed with a performer she couldn't almost container herself.

Overall, we had a great time at the concert and it would be nice if Stella would call me again for another date.  But, I not going to worry about it no more if a girl or woman will calls me after a date or not.  It's time to put me first and women, second!

That was the very last entry.  Hopefully he put himself first and moved on from all of this drama!   We wish him the best future and hope he found love and happiness.

To the XXXTreme -- (Adult Content)

Greetings, guys!  Rebecca here... Brian is close by but working on some eBay sales.   We've got a doozie of a blog for you tonight!

Every once in awhile we get a unit that's just so unbelievable that we HAVE to blog about it with tons of pictures and videos just so you get the idea of how truly amazing it was.  Our Whore-der unit was the perfect example of this. This unit we're about to discuss is one of those units.   It's easy to be sensational in this business, there are lots of private things that most tenants would not like others to see, and a general curiosity from everyone to be able to delve deep into someone's personal life,  but we also try to be genuine "Storage HEROES" so there's a fine line we always walk between respect for people and an entrepreneurial spirit-- after all, once we buy something we have a right to it, and that person has had every opportunity to get it back, for weeks and weeks, up until the very last second we are at auction.

With this particular unit, the man seemed like an upstanding member of the community-- and had a big secret.   Married with children, he led a dark and secret life filled with gay sex, cross-dressing, and kinky activities involving torture.   It is never our desire to out or expose anyone-- so we decided to wait a bit before publishing this blog.  This unit was purchased several months ago.

Please be warned (as if the above wasn't warning enough) that this blog is full of adult content-- we will put the raciest of videos and pictures (usually the ones with nudity) behind links that you have to click through.  If you're easily offended you may want to go read one of our past blogs instead!

Here goes...

When we got to the unit... this is what it looked like when the doors rolled open.  We were thrilled by the prospects of it.  This facility is very close to us (we typically buy about 20-30 minutes away which isn't far by any standards, but this one is like...  less than 2 miles away from each of our homes... so it's definitely convenient),  it's super nice,  it's indoor and climate controlled but you can get to it after hours-- it's just a beautiful facility.  Because of that, we almost never buy at the facility because the units go for way more than than do anywhere else.  For some reason, this day had a lighter crowd, and we were determined to get this unit no matter what.  A couple of people did bid against us, but we were so insistent that they eventually backed off.   I can't remember what the sale price was because it was so long ago, but I know that it was over $300 and under $500.

If you're wondering why we had to have it, there were a couple of reasons-- there were lots of visible things that were in great shape--  a home gym inversion table,  a really nice dining room set that still had the chairs covered in plastic, yet no huge bulky pieces, mattresses, or anything too difficult to move.  There were also a lot of very clean, very neat, very well packed boxes.   They were all labelled with the name of the Storage Facility as well, which usually means that the person took great care in moving their items into the unit (and also great expense, as those boxes aren't cheap!).  Good signs all around.

Here are some more views of the unit:

After we purchased the unit, we went to the other 5 locations in the caravan auction.  For some reason we bought 4-5 units in one day (we still need to blog about a few of them-- one was the one with all of the toys, including the dinosaurs that wouldn't stop moving and the Burger King toys)...  needless to say, we had 24 hours to get all of the items out, because the facility was overfull and didn't find that out until after we bought it, I believe, so we were pulling a late nighter!  It's probably a good thing no one else was around when we were there with this unit, because I shrieked SEVERAL times!

The first thing we opened was a box of tools... useful ALWAYS:

The next box, not so much-- there was a giant golden lion (we've since sold) that was SO heavy, and a black and gold horse head, which we still have!  Please submit your inquiries on it! :)

This inversion table was in nice shape... but it started giving us ideas that maybe we were in for an experience.  See that black bit on the table?  That's bondage tape.

A view of some of the boxes in the back of the unit:

Some pillows, although in very nice condition (probably the nicest pillows out of any of the pillows in storage units), we still threw them away.  We don't deal with pillows or blankets EVER-- it's not worth the risk to our other inventory for fleas, ticks, bed bugs, lice.  Not to mention, if someone was a smoker, everything could end up taking on a terrible smell!   Once we started finding some... other items... in the locker, it was a definite that we were getting rid of these pillows!  No telling WHAT happened on them!

There were also some empty boxes that the tenant must have purchased for packing but didn't use-- Brian is always shipping items so was really happy about these!  There was also a brand new 85 piece tool set!

HERE WE GO....     In a bag... nicely packaged... was THIS.  Or these.    They are HUGE.  I realized you couldn't tell from the picture, so...

I put my hand in the picture for a size reference:  The one all the way on the right is longer than my THIGH.

I was scared to open THIS bag, but it turns out to be a really nice bowling ball!  And bowling shoes!

Oh... but, in the bottom of the bag (of course), was THIS:
Vibrating Velvet Harness.  Brand new in the package!  Who couldn't use one of THOSE?   For the record, I STILL have no idea what this thing does!

Someone found a baseball bat!

Notice the 2 boxes of records behind him?  That's always a really good seller for us, we can sell a box or more of records in under a day.    There's also a little valet / TV dinner table.

Another bag... it's time to play What's in the Bag!

GOODNESS!     Contents included:   super large dildo,  purple flashlight thing,  bondage tape (which I had never really considered as being a thing until this unit),  various items of unknown origin, batteries, vibrating things (please excuse my ignorance, I'm very much a good girl), oh, and my favorite...     there was a key that I had found earlier, and whenever that happens we're excited because there's a chance there is a lock around and if the lock is uncut that's one less lock we have to buy and one more for our arsenal.   I looked in the bag, and saw the matching lock and without gloves (I will tell you later why I don't wear gloves when digging most times),  went for it.  It was attached to...  well, watch the video to find out.  Brian was laughing hysterically at me

There was also this mystery bottle of fluid in the bag ( featured in the video above).  It was in a coke bottle but had a consistency more like oil, but a color that was brownish black.   Did NOT want to open it to find out!

Here's another video... probably one of the funniest moments/times we have EVER had in ANY storage unit!  I laugh every time I watch this video!

Brian playing with the valet stand / clothing rack / tv stand / whatever it is.

The bag, I was scared to look inside, but seemed innocent enough with toiletry items:

THIS bag on the other hand... well, you can see what's sticking out of it, right??   There were also a BUNCH of items inside, that we'll get to later.

No idea what this was... maybe me using my hand to shield you from whatever it was!  You're welcome, dear reader!

Brian found something...

It's a really nice cd player / record player  / radio that's meant to look antique, but obviously isn't.  Really cool though!

The chairs from the dinette set.  Really nice and in GREAT shape!  We ended up selling the 5 piece set for somewhere around $200... so, that was half of our unit investment right there!  They were also really light and easy to move, so that was much appreciated!

A file folder, personal items and paperwork-- this tenant was really good about not storing too terribly much of it and it was all very organized.  We returned it all, of course.

Another shriek came from me over this (fake) snake!   Not like some of the other snake looking things in the unit, but scary nonetheless!

Foot spa, brand new in the box!

Oh goodness.  Remember the bag with the dildo sticking out it inside the box that I said we'd get to later?  Well, it's later, and here it is.    On the top, it looks like the standard box... condoms, sex toys, porn, etc.   But, when you look a little further,  you see eyelash adhesive, powder, cake makeup foundation, eyelash curlers, eyeshadow, things like that.  At this point we still weren't sure if we were dealing with a man, woman, or couple-- so I didn't think much of it.

Porn... wigs... strap on boobs!  (I can't wait to see the hits we get on this blog based on the keywords... oops).   We try to keep it clean, but how else could I describe these things?

We now had some of the cross-dressing items, including a book on "How to cover up your beard with makeup" -- so I was pretty sure on what we were dealing with.  The porn sealed the deal.   It involves nudity, so we'll make you click here to see it, but as a preview, let me just say, that I've never seen a pile of guys stacked so high!   That's right... it's exactly what you're thinking!

Here's another one.  Called Transsexual Sex Orgy:  Don't say I didn't warn you.

And another.  I'll let this one be a surprise.  But it involves the military!

There were quite a few in the box (and scattered throughout the unit), and of course we won't show you all of them, just wanted to bring light to a few of the more sensational titles.   As Brian would say... magnificent!

A brand new knife set, still in the box... really really nice too!   For all of the things that were a little off about this guy, he had excellent taste!

A picture of the horse-head, which again, we still have!  $25 if anyone wants it!  I am NOT sure what's underneath the cover.   I don't remember.  That's a first for me.  Perhaps Brian will remember.  Hmm....

This box was an interesting size, so of course I had to look inside...

It contained lots of beautiful art, very carefully wrapped.  This is an auction hunter's DREAM!

We used our new found table (that goes with the previously shown chairs) as a surface to prop the art on top of and begin opening some of it.  It was all beautiful, well kept, and some was even nicely framed!

A box of books... all well kept:

Some kitchen items, including a food scale, blender, and a lot of protein powders and weight lifting stuff.

We've said this before and we'll say it again... we don't care how much you spent on your kitchen spices.  We don't care that they are "non-perishable" -- we don't even care if you only plan to have your  stuff in storage for a short period of time.   No matter how well packed, how air-tight, do NOT pack food of ANY kind.  EVER.     Luckily, this facility is so nice and clean that rodents were not an issue-- but they could have been!    We threw this entire box away.  Why chance getting sick (or getting sued over getting someone else sick??)... it's just not worth it.    Many people also don't realize but there are Indian-Meal moths that live in many grains, wheats, corn products, including cereals, breadcrumbs, that sort of thing-- if your non-perishables sit too long they can hatch and breed really quickly leaving you with a huge problem.

Back to more fun topics... clothing!   A full wardrobe!  We see these for sale all the times at facilities but have never seen one in use-- they are very nice!  We were thrilled to have this one to display clothing at garage sales, and also to have everything inside!  Sadly, they were all men's clothes, but they were NICE!

I knew Brian would find at least ONE item of clothing he could use!

There were lots of Hawaiian shirts, lots of sports jackets (jackets for Sports teams, I mean), and really nice work shirts. Our guy was a very well employed professional (we won't say more because it's a rare job and we don't want to give anyone reason to find him).

A Direct TV receiver!  This wasn't special except for that we found FOUR of these in ONE day on this particular day:

I guess it was just DirecTV day!

There was also a REALLY nice flat screen TV (we RARELY ever find these in units, it's usually the chunky ones that no one wants that we sell for $5 or the HUGE box ones that NO one will take, even if you give them away.    The few units we've seen that have had them, have went for over $600-- people go crazy over those TVs, auction bidders included.  Fortunately for us, this one was wrapped in trash bag and hidden at the bottom of a box.  We sold it to my father for $100.   (YES, that was a huge discount!)

Speaking of technology, here's an entire bag of really well kept CDs!  Those didn't last quickly at our sales, either:

Another box of kitchen utensils, pots, pans, and barely used kitchen products, including this mandolin:

A Jack Daniels flask!  Your Storage Heroes can DEFINITELY use this to sneak alcohol in places!

Ooh!  There's two!  It's a matching set!

Another box includes a portable CD player (which is being put to GREAT use inside the warehouse now that we've sold the 2 record players we had),  and a book.  Brian is a HUGE Warren Buffett fan (and we have many discussions about him daily) so I was excited when I saw that's what the book was!

A box of cleaning supplies!   Well packaged and in great shape.  It has DEFINITELY been put to good use over the last 5 months... I can tell you exactly where it is in the warehouse!

This box included random household items.  Our guy was very into the beach and travelled to Florida/Hawaii often--  his entire house was furnished in a beach motif.  Loved this palm tree toilet seat cover--- I didn't know they made such a thing!

Ahh-- this box was FULL of luau stuff, including leis, grass skirts, and decorations.  Oh, it also had brand new scuba gear (which we sold for a nice price), but who cares about that?   I won a trip to Oahu on Wheel of Fortune (going in June), so this stuff will DEFINITELY come in handy!  Let's have a luau this summer to celebrate!

More grass skirts and DVDs!   The DVDs were all easy sellers as well, but Used Cars is still sitting in my living room waiting for us to watch it!  I heard it was a great movie!

There was a lot of Auburn stuff, including sports jackets, jerseys, and a few commemorative bobbleheads.  We probably could have gotten a pretty penny for them because they were limited edition, but sold for a pretty fair price to some of our favorite frequent customers!

Here's a picture of  that garage sale as mentioned, selling some of these items and continuing the dig.  We dug all but the last 3-4 boxes, so I trying to get that all accomplished at this sale (told you, it was a busy weekend!)

A book on Nostradmus and the Millenium:

Another bag... oh goodness! As expected it contains lots more adult items, so we put it aside and tried to hide it from the children.  Lots of people went through it and it was sold that same day!  (We often get USED sex toys and we ALWAYS advertise that they are used, and that hasn't stopped anyone from buying them!  They always say "we can put that in the dishwasher".    One of these toys was so big it wouldn't FIT in the dishwasher, so I have NO idea what you do with THAT!)

Here's a book on the Illusion of Crossdressing.  There's also some stockings, more wigs, and more bodysuits.   I haven't seen so many body suits since Mrs. Doubtfire came out!

Our guy loved Florida so had a lot of souvenirs, including some brand new ones from Walt Disney World!

What that table looked like all set up-  one of those empty boxes actually contained the well-packed glass for the table top.  We love when it's obvious that tenants valued their possessions!

 Another view of our sale:

And another:

Brian working hard!

 Or hardly working?

Another box filled with women's accessories:

Just a sample of all of the CDs and DVDs we had.  We sell them generally for $1 a piece, so they don't last long!

Ooh... another picture of the horse head!  Looks like he's trying to drink my Burger King Soda.  Did I mention this lovely creature is currently for sale?  (we'll never get rid of it... ever!)

My Hawaiian tiki items were a perfect compliment to the mini-bar we were selling at the time from an estate.  Brian had a great and creative idea to put them on/near the mini-bar for marketing reasons.  The bar sold, but fortunately the Hawaiian items did not..  I still have them!  One of the best parts about this business is the items you get for free (cleaning products, party supplies, gift bags) that you ALWAYS have to buy and take for granted how much money you spend on them over the years!

Uh oh... another box full of hair, body suits, and porn.

I especially like the one called "Tranny Transformers"  -- some of our very very dear friends own an Adult Pride Shop that is absolutely FABULOUS --  hopefully we'll be able to pass along some of the new and unopened "goodies" to them!  Check them out at Bourbon Pride.  "Pride" is a perfect name because I can't be prouder of my friends for taking on a store and making it such a success!   Proud to know them, as well!  Oh, and want to know how we met?  We were contestants together on Wheel of Fortune!  I've always said that the best thing about Wheel of Fortune was not the money I won, or the trip, or meeting Pat and Vanna (although all that was a lifelong dream, don't get me wrong) -- it was the friendships I have made!  Check them out though, seriously, they also have a lot of really cool New Orleans types of items (beads, boas, t-shirts) and some REALLY hilarious and unique greeting cards.

There were also some really cute shoes!   I have big feet (9.5-10) for a woman, so I was excited about these because I thought maybe they'd fit me, but sadly, they were like a size 11 or 12!   You have to special order those off the web, I hear.

One of our fellow auction hunters came by to see what we were doing at this moment, and speaking of New Orleans items-- they dropped off this bag of stuff they found but didn't want-- lots of alcohol marketing things (Jager keychains and Sam Adams towels and t-shirts)... score!  We happily sold it and sold it pretty quickly.

And, believe it or not, there were MORE leis... great for my stash... and also some boas brand new in the packaging!  You better believe I threw those at Mardi Gras !  I rode in a historic all-women's Krewe this year and had a blast!  And I threw a ton of boas!

More of the Mardi Gras fun stuff!  I think Brian kept the Budweiser pool floatie! ;)

There was also a really cool "Wanted"  Bourbon Street picture frame!

Almost done with the dig... I guess my phone accidentally snapped this picture.  It was a beautiful day!

PRISON LETTER!   They are in almost every unit!

BOX of prison letters!

Also some fingerprints for a job our guy had.

Some more really nice audio accessories:

Who doesn't love MASH?

And finally... remember that art?  Here are a few of them uncovered.  All beach scenes, sailboats, nautical inspired, peaceful images.  I really hope our tenant found some peace-- the facility had nothing but nice things to say about him, that he was such a sweet guy.  Maybe he's on a beach somewhere right now!

That's it...  over all, we did great... spent somewhere in the $400 neighborhood, and made $200 on the table, $100 on the TV,  $125 on the used sex toys,  probably another $200 on DVDs and CDs,  $200 on the record player and records, plus there was the clothing, kitchen items, it goes on and on.  Plus Brian's Saints jacket, Rebecca's party items (LUAU party NOT adult party) and all of the cleaning supplies!   We didn't do too shabby at all, and look at the great story we had to tell!

Storage Heroes Tip #81:  Why doesn't Rebecca wear gloves?  It's really a matter of personal preference.  Brian wears them in every unit.   Do what makes you feel comfortable.  If you must know, the reasons I choose not to wear gloves are as follows:  1) It's really hard to stick your fingers in tiny places (like coin purses, pockets of jeans with them on and taking them on/off can be a hassle when you don't have a lot of time,  2)  There are lots of little tiny things (diamonds, gold, coins) that I would never have found feeling around in pockets had I been wearing gloves, and finally 3) and most important,  if I touch something disgusting (oil, grease, dirt, liquid, etc)--  I want to know RIGHT AWAY that I've touched it so that I can a) identify the source  b) determine if it's hazardous and if I need medical attention and c) NOT SPREAD WHATEVER IT IS AROUND.  Think about it- if I am wearing thick gloves, touch something sticky, and don't realize it,  I'll touch other things and get that stuff all over the place (including in the van, in my own hair, on my face if I have an itch, whatever)... and the next thing I know I have a bunch of sticky stuff with no clue where it came from.      Again, it's just a matter of personal preference, and I know I will get flack for this, but just sharing!   The exception is, if we are processing a unit with drug needles and/or rat droppings I cannot just shake off, I will absolutely wear gloves.  If there are sex toys, I will either wear gloves or just make sure not to touch them (unless it's an accident!)

Until next time,

Storage Heroes
